Medicare Part A
Medicare Part A, or hospital insurance, helps cover inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing care, hospice care, and some home health services. Most people get it premium-free if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes during their careers.
Medicare Part B
Medicare Part B covers outpatient care, doctor visits, preventive services, durable medical equipment and some home health care. It typically requires a monthly premium, and beneficiaries pay deductibles and coinsurance for services.
Medicare Part C
Medicare Advantage is a Medicare-approved plan offered by private companies that provides an alternative to Original Medicare for health and drug coverage. These “bundled” plans typically include Part A, Part B, and often Part D benefits, and may offer additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare.
Medicare Part D
Medicare Part D plans provide drug coverage and are administered by private insurance companies that comply with Medicare’s regulations.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
Also known as Medigap, helps pay some of the healthcare costs that Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover. Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage are two different ways to receive Medicare coverage. You cannot have both at the same time.
